Today we’ll be talking with Liz Whalen. A Personal Coach. Public Speaker. And Balance thought Leader, who is on a mission to transform the way we do business by focussing on your mental, physical and emotional health.

Liz Whalen coaches men and women seeking to optimize their days by increasing their energy, decreasing stress, and improving performance.

Her approach is focused on bringing balance and honoring the unique individual.

She combines the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda and mindfulness techniques with modern neuroscience, exercise science, and holistic nutrition to guide her clients toward living their best lives. - (source About Liz Whalen)

Moments of Inspiration:

You were born with wings why do you decide to crawl through life - Jalaluddin Rumi

Moment of Hustle:

  • The #1 thing that gets Liz out of bed for is the excitement of new opportunities. Liz also has a strict morning routine that keeps her balanced, motivated, and maintains weight loss. Check out her video and blog for more info here.
  • When Liz is feeling unbalanced she practices Holosync meditation for 15 minutes. Holosync is the “use of sounds at particular frequencies to ‘entrain the brain.’” Melissa and Steven checked it out and liked it! Holosync has mixed reviews. Tweet us know your thoughts!
  • Plain filtered hot or warm water in a stainless steel thermos. It’s great for digestion, helps to move toxins, and stimulates the metabolism.
  • Steven also mentioned the Soma water filter he uses at home and loves! “Soma is on a mission to improve life for everyone who drinks water, with sustainable, plant-based filters that make water healthy and delicious, beautiful carafes and pitchers, and the convenient Filters by Mail service.” Steven and Melissa receive a new filter every two months like clockwork!
  • While Liz is in the air she never uses wifi or in seat entertainment. She uses time to read, meditate, or visualize her next steps. Constructive daydreaming is the power of visualization. Neuroscience is proving positive or negative thinking controls your mind and world. The conscious mind controls the subconscious mind. Liz dives in deeper to how your mind affects your body more here.

Today we’ll be talking with Lina Sanden. A Singer, Songwriter, musician, European travel guide, social butterfly and all around creative hustler. And did I mention an amazing singer?

Steven and Melissa met Lina at New Media Europe where she wrote and performed the conference theme song. She is absolutely amazing! You can check her performance out here.

Moments of Inspiration:

Lina doesn’t like quotes but was really into Tim Ferris’ 4 Hour Work Week and Tori Amos, Piece by Piece.

Moments of Hustle:

  • Having a nomadic lifestyle - Lina truly lives and breathes the nomadic lifestyle as an Eastern Europe travel guide, but also in her downtime she travels when she wants to focus on her singing and songwriting. Her travels inspire her creativity.
  • Tight deadlines and being under pressure- why do we love tight deadlines so much?
  • Google drive - Der - like every other digital nomad around the world, G-Drive seems to be the go-to.
  • We transfer - Transfer large files to friends and colleagues with this awesome service.
  • Dropbox - another can’t live without for creative hustlers
  • Freelancer.com - unbeknownst to us, did you know you can find music producers on freelancer.com? Cool, huh!?!
  • Hotels - LOVES hotels!
  • Booking.com - Lina finds the best deals on Booking.
  • Emailga.me - The ultimate email game …. We’re still not exactly sure about this one. Try it out and hit us up with your thoughts!
  • When Lina’s home she balances by:
    • Guided meditation - headspace is our favorite guided meditation
    • Yoga
    • The Lucky Bitch Bootcamp - this one intrigues the hell out of us… Mental exercises? Someone give it a go and we’ll 3oz or Less your feedback! luckybitch.com/bootcamp

Barbara is a passionate traveler who has traveled around the world. She has an interesting background and quite gifted in several areas. “I am a modern Translator and Interpreter who combines traveling and working as a digital nomad.” – Barbara Riedel

Barbara finds herself more minimalistic than she’s ever been. She sold most of her things, has been living out of 2 bags, but admits at one point she had almost 200 pairs of shoes. She’s been listening to her gut and doing what she wants to do and not what other people want.

But she wants everyone to remember, not everything fits at first, be patient and stay centered.

Moments of Inspiration:

  • Do it immediately, don’t be a part of that “manana” philosophy

Admirable Mentions:

  • Mondello Beach Palermo, Sicilia
  • Babble cube – After we write our first book (putting it out to the universe now), I can see us using  service like Babble Cube to get it translated.
  • Audible
  • Her mobile office is a small backpack, but it’s what’s inside that counts.
    • Cannon DLSR – Even though we’re a Sony family (although truth be told, we’re using our phones more as cameras every day), this is the best deal on the net for a top-of-the-line camera.
    • Macbook – Seems like you cannot be a #CreativeHustler unless you have one. Anyone else getting excited for the new MacBook Pro?
    • 3 camera lenses – Not sure which exact sizes, but most likely they’re Cannon as well. This KIT seems to have a good collection of lenses and accessories.
    • GoPro – Melissa keeps saying we need one. I wasn’t too into it until maybe recently. This one is looking like a good starter. GoPro Hero Black
    • GoPro batteries – Technology sucks without power. This prevents that from happening.
    • Chargers – Barbara is a true digital nomad, so making sure you can charge your tech is important (see above). This is a pretty badass charger. Think we all need to get one of these.
  • Google Drive
    • 1 terabyte
  • Wifi is a #CreativeHustler and #DigitalNomads best friend. During the interview, Barbara was posted up at PMO Co-working in Palermo. A co-working and event space really pushing innovation on an island that seems to take you back in time. Shout out to them!
  • Barbara has a love for the beach, it’s where she feels the most balanced, you know when the sun, sea, sand and wind all unite for a moment.
  • What’s with these entrepreneurs and their McDonald’s obsession? Eat healthier people. Now where’s my damn Monster? (says, Alan)
  • Photo editing: Like a good creative, Barbara uses Light Room, which I think every photographer in the world must use. It’s from Adobe so you know it’s legit.
  • I’d say I was surprised she uses iMovie for video, but I know a lot of people who find it easy and straightforward.
  • She tried headspace for meditation guidance. She likes it, but “got bored” after awhile. Steven and Melissa, however, swear by it! Just gotta find what works for you.

[RECAP] Lee Jackson of Lee Jackson Dev out of the UK is a hustler on a mission. He's a WordPress wiz and creates some of the most badass plugins and hacks in the biz. And if you're into WordPress dev, you can join the private conversation with the latest tips and tricks on Lee's private Facebook group, WP Innovator

Moments of Inspiration:

  • Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right. - Henry Ford

Admirable Mentions:

  • New Media Europe - The BEST podcast convention not only in Europe but we'd go so far as to say the world. The hosts and owners of the convention, Mike and Izabela Russell, really know how to make a global family out of a bunch of tech geeks. Follow their story on Twitter and be in the know when they announce the 2017 convention location!
  • Zoom - A great platform for easy screen sharing and video conferencing. When working with Lee to redevelop the TCH site, this was our main mode of communication.
  • Freedcamp - Like most creatives and agency folks, I’m very familiar with task-setting platforms and project management sites. This one seems to pretty easy to navigate and helped our team stay on track when redesigning our website.
  • Coffitivity - One of Melissa’s favorite sites. Put the headphones on and let the noise of a busy cafe focus you and get you hustling. Me personally, I get upset because the espresso never shows up.
  • Kindle - If e-readers are your thing, then I’d be shocked if you didn’t have one already. If e-reading isn’t a thing, give it try.
  • Moleskin - for to-do list - As digital as we are, I still will not be caught dead without my Moleskin. This classic notebook is great no matter what.
  • Google Apps - I’d be hard stretched to find a modern-day business not utilizing the google suite in some way.
  • Troop London Bag - Troop London has a bunch of cool bags and messengers. If you’re on the go, a cool little satchel might be all you need. Click the link to see our favorite.
  • ATR2 100 Mic - This is a great mic no matter what you need it for. As a podcaster, this is almost setting the standard.
  • Bose Noise Canceling headphones - Personally, I won’t leave home without a pair of these in my mobile office. On an airplane, they are a life-saver and in times of deep thought, they block out the world so you can focus.
  • Regus Coworking - We love coworking spots and Regus is great because they are worldwide, so you’re never too far away from stable wifi.

John Morena is a native New Yorker; born in the Bronx, migrating to Brooklyn. Since going freelance in 2004, he enjoys projects and challenges the wind brings his way. His outstanding artistic passions lie in drawing & making animated films. One of the lucky ones, John has chosen a path that he truly feels passionate about.

Inspiring Thoughts:

John work in sprints. Couple months on. Couple months off.

Admirable mentions:

Polyphasic sleep - Da Vinci had a unique sleeping pattern, one that has been studied constantly since his genius graced our Earth. This book, which we have not read yet (but has been ordered) seems to break down the strategy for optimizing your sleeping patterns to be more productive.

Tim Ferris - Check out his podcast, books and blogs if you haven’t. It is beyond brilliant.

Digital Cave Dweller - Being digital nomads ourselves, the balance we find is at times, we are also digital cave dwellers. Sometimes after being on the road for weeks at a time, there is nothing better than coming home and enjoying our lovely flat together.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles - Being from NYC originally, I understand that getting around is not easy. Traffic, crazy pedestrians and horns that never stop, sometimes walking is the best mode of transportation. But if you must travel in NYC, check out this awesome app to find your way.

Practice, practice, practice presentations - This should be a no brainer. Practice your presentations and make sure you are articulating everything you truly want to say. Check this book out for some tips and tricks (and how to present in a zen manner).
